A Few Little Bedroom Details

I don’t have a big bedroom update today. I’m still trying to repair that wavy wall and get the rest of the trim finished. I hope to have a bigger update on that tomorrow. In the meantime, I do have some very small updates to share.

First, I’ve been looking for a fabric to go on the bench that I plan to use just inside the bedroom doors in the foyer. I think I’ve found the perfect one. After looking at several options, I’ve decided to go with this one from FabricGuru.com.

I decided on that one because it’s a fun pattern and it’s velvet. Y’all know how much I love velvet. And I like that it will bring the teal down to the bottom portion of the foyer. But that teal on the bench will then allow me to use colorful pillows on the bench to tie in with the pink in the closet and the orange in the bedroom. I doubt that I’ll stick with these particular pillows that I already have, but this is the general idea.

And then on the wall above, I plan to hang our “watercolor” chapel picture from our wedding day that I’ve used in this area for the last several years. It used to be on the main wall, so I’ll just move it over to this wall. This is the picture I’m talking about…

In other news, I have been looking for trim to use on the leading edge of my teal velvet drapery panels for the bedroom for months. I’m not even exaggerating. It’s been months. I don’t know if you’ve shopped for drapery trim lately, but it’s so expensive!! Every time I’d find one that I like, the total for the 18 yards that I need came to over $1000. I found a couple that were in the $700-$800 range, but even that seemed ridiculous to me. Y’all know me well enough to know that there’s no way I’d pay that for drapery trim.

So this past weekend, I sat down with my laptop and determined to search until I found something that would work. I’ve just had it in my mind all this time that I want trim on those draperies, and I wasn’t going to be satisfied with plain solid teal draperies against solid teal grasscloth walls. I wanted trim, and I was determined to find one.

Well, it took a couple of hours, but I finally came across this one from Luxe Fabric Co.

I specifically wanted something in the orange/coral range to go with the headboard fabric and the area rug, and while this one was far from my first choice, I think it will work out perfectly. And the price was amazing at $7.85 per yard. It’s wider than I had hoped at 3.5″ wide, but when all of the other choices that I found were ridiculously expensive, I’m rather happy with this one. I think it’ll add just enough brightness to the edges of those drapery panels.

While I didn’t add trim to the drapery panels in the mockup, you can use your imagination to “see” what it will look like.

So all of the little details are coming together. I still need to find lamps for the bedside tables, and then decide on bedding to go with the headboard fabric.

The biggest decision I still need to make is about the dresser that will go opposite the headboard wall. It’s currently painted blue because it was in our previous bedroom, and that blue definitely won’t work in the new bedroom. I have no idea what color to paint this dresser. I don’t want more teal. Orange would be too much, I think. But painting a large piece of furniture cream or white goes against everything in me. 😀

I have no idea what kind of wood lies underneath the original factory finish, but I’m tempted to strip the whole thing and see if it’s a wood I can work with. If it’s something I can work with, a natural wood finish might be the best option.

UPDATE: I forgot to add that the light for the foyer was delivered, and it’s even prettier in person than I had expected! I can’t wait to get this installed!
